BCCI
Honors Victims of Pahalgam Terror Attack During SRH vs MI IPL Clash
Hyderabad
: In a moving display of solidarity, the Board of Control for Cricket in India
(BCCI) paid tribute to the victims of yesterday’s Pahalgam terror attack ahead
of Match 41
of the TATA IPL between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv
Gandhi International Stadium.
A
minute’s silence was observed before the toss, following a formal announcement
over the stadium PA system—allowing both live and television audiences to join
in commemorating the lives lost. During the toss, Sunrisers captain Pat Cummins
and Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya offered condolences and condemned the
atrocity. Players, match officials, commentators, and support staff all wore
black armbands throughout the contest, a gesture acknowledged repeatedly by the
broadcast commentary team.
To
preserve the solemnity of the occasion, the BCCI suspended all customary
fanfare: there were no cheerleader performances, fireworks, or in-stadium music
and DJ acts.
BCCI
Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia commented: “The cricketing community is
deeply shocked and anguished by the tragic loss of innocent lives in the
gruesome terror attack at Pahalgam. On behalf of the BCCI, we condemn this
ghastly and cowardly act in the strongest terms. We extend our heartfelt
condolences to the bereaved families and offer prayers for the departed. In
sharing their pain and grief, we stand hand in hand at this hour of tragedy.”
This
collective gesture underscored cricket’s unifying power and the nation’s
resolve to stand together in mourning.
