Anahat Singh, Joshna Chinappa, and Abhay Singh Shine at JSW Indian Open

Mumbai, 26 March 2025: Under the dazzling evening sky at the Bombay Gymkhana, Indian squash stars Anahat Singh, Joshna Chinappa, and Abhay Singh stormed into the semi-finals of the JSW Indian Open, India’s first-ever PSA Copper event. Adding a unique twist to the tournament, the matches transitioned to an outdoor glass court on the Bombay Gymkhana lawns, where the semi-finals and finals will also take place.

Anahat Singh’s Thrilling Comeback

India’s No. 1 and JSW-supported Anahat Singh received thunderous applause as she stepped onto the glass court to face Egypt’s Nadien Elhammamy. Anahat dominated early but lost momentum in the second set, which Elhammamy snatched in a tense tie-breaker. The Egyptian carried her rhythm into the next set, taking a 2-1 lead. However, with the home crowd rallying behind her, Anahat clawed her way back to level at 2-2. The final set had fans on edge, with both players going toe to toe. Elhammamy pushed hard, but the 17-year-old Indian held her nerve to clinch a spot in the semi-finals.

Joshna Chinappa Battles Past Akanksha Salunkhe

Joshna Chinappa, one of India’s most experienced players, opened the evening session against top-seed Akanksha Salunkhe. The two Indian stars, well-acquainted with each other’s game, treated fans to a gripping contest. Chinappa edged the first two sets in close battles, but Salunkhe bounced back to force a decider. The nail-biting 56-minute match ended in Chinappa’s favor as she prevailed 3-2 (12-10, 13-11, 9-11, 9-11, 11-5).

Abhay Singh Cruises to the Semi-Finals

India’s Abhay Singh showcased his class in the men’s draw, facing Malaysia’s Ameeshenraj Chandaran. Abhay dominated from the start, not allowing his opponent to settle. With a commanding 3-0 (11-5, 11-8, 11-7) victory in just 34 minutes, he secured his place in the semi-finals.
