: India’s top squash stars, Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh, delivered stellar
performances in the semi-finals of the JSW Indian Open, securing their places
in the final at the Bombay Gymkhana on Thursday. In India’s first-ever PSA
Squash Copper tournament, the semi-finals took place in an outdoor glass court
on the lawns of Bombay Gymkhana, offering fans a unique viewing experience.
Anahat
Singh Triumphs Over Joshna Chinappa
India’s
rising squash sensation, Anahat Singh, faced veteran Joshna Chinappa in the
first semi-final of the day. As expected, it was a tightly contested battle.
Anahat started strong, cruising through the first set, but Chinappa, using her
vast experience, fought back to level the match at 1-1. However, the
17-year-old Anahat, supported by JSW, shifted gears, utilizing sharp angles and
tactical play to dominate the next two sets. She sealed the victory in 32
minutes with a scoreline of 3-1 (11-7, 5-11, 11-6, 11-6), earning her spot in
the final.
Abhay
Singh Battles Past Karim El Hammamy
In
the men’s semi-final, Abhay Singh faced a tough challenge against Egypt’s Karim
El Hammamy. Abhay started explosively, winning the first two sets with ease.
However, the Egyptian fought back to take the third set, making for a thrilling
contest. Despite the setback, Abhay responded with a dominant fourth set,
closing out the match in 55 minutes with a 3-1 (11-4, 11-6, 6-11, 11-6)
victory, booking his place in the final.
The
JSW Indian Open is being broadcast on Squash TV and Myco. From the
quarter-finals onwards, Fancode has also joined as a streaming partner.
