Colombo: The England-Asia Cup Indoor Cricket Tournament
has started under the initiative of Ceylon Indoor Cricket Association with the
approval of World Indoor Cricket Federation (WICF). The brilliant performance
of the Indian men's team in this tournament has taken India to the top position
in the points table on Day 2 and the Indian men's team has captured this
position by beating Sri Lanka Development and Singapore Teams.
In indoor cricket, 8 players play on the field and each
pair has to bat 4 overs. So for every player dismissed during this time, the
team has to lose 5 runs. All 8 players have to bowl 2 overs each.
In the late match last night, when the Indian team looked
like they would win against Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka came out strong and drew the
match. Both teams scored 99-99 runs and both teams got 3.5 points in this
match.
In today's match, India defeated the Sri Lankan
development team by 52 runs. In this match, India scored 115 runs while batting
first, & India restricted the Sri Lankan development team to 63 runs in 16
overs and earned 7 points in this match. In this match, India's Daivik Rai and
M. Mallikarjun each (16 runs, 2 wickets), Vijay Gowda (15 runs and 2 wickets),
Afroz Pasha (21 runs), Dhanush Bhaskar (12 runs and 3 wickets) and Adhiraj
Johri (12 runs) performed brilliantly in the victory.
In the match against Singapore, India set the goal of an
easy victory by restricting Singapore by 13 runs in the first 16 overs, but
India scored 143 runs in 16 overs and celebrated the victory by 130 runs,
earning 7 points in this match as well and taking the first place in the points
table. Vijay Gowda (16 runs and 4 wickets), Afroz Pasha (27 runs, 2 wickets),
Daivik Rai (22 runs, 1 wicket) and Adhiraj Johri (22 runs and 1 wicket)
performed strongly in this match.
Indian Team has proved their undisputed dominance in the
tournament with 17.5 points so far, followed by Sri Lanka with 16.5 points.
England is in third place with 13 points.
