England-Asia Indoor Cricket Cup tournament begins in Sri Lanka
Indian Men's and Men's Masters (40+) Team Announced
Colombo, April 14: The England-Asia Cup (2024) Indoor Cricket Tournament
has started under the initiative of Ceylon Indoor Cricket Association with the
approval of World Indoor Cricket Federation (WICF). Hiran de Mel has been
selected as the tournament director for this tournament. The tournament started
at the Indoor Arena of Austasia Sports Club, Thalawathugoda, Colombo, Sri Lanka
today. In this tournament along with hosts Sri Lanka, India, Singapore and
England have participated. The finals of this tournament will be played on
April 18.
Dhanush Bhaskar has been named
as the captain of the Indian men's team and Daivik Rai as the vice-captain (both
from Karnataka). Jayesh Salgaonkar from Mumbai, Maharashtra has been selected
as the coach of this team. Jayesh Salgaonkar has previously performed brilliantly
as a player for Singapore in international tournaments. Other players in this
team are as follows. Vijay Gowda, Suraj Reddy,
Afroz Pasha, Karthik Subramanian, M. Mallikarjuna, Vaibhav Gurudatta, Jash
Joshi, Amar Singh Verma, Adhiraj Johri & Ashik Christy. All these players
have been selected for this tournament from various selection test tournaments
/ trials.
Prasanna Kumar (Karnataka) will
be representing as the captain of the Indian team in men's master’s category
(40+) and Prashant Karia (Maharashtra) as the vice-captain. In the form of
Prashant Karia, Maharashtra has got India's vice-captain post for the first
time. Prakash Rathod has been selected as the coach of this team. Other players
in this team are as follows. Naresh Khurana, Prof. Chiranthana Nanjappa, Anshul
Sharma, Abishek Wesley, Keshav Reddy, Samir Shah, Rakesh Chavan, Gaurav Kambli,
Zubin Hakim, Dr. Sunil Murthy have been selected.
Seven players from Maharashtra
(Prashant Karia, Naresh Khurana, Anshul Sharma, Samir Shah, Rakesh Chavan,
Gaurav Kambli, Zubin Hakim) are playing in the men's masters group (40+) teams
and it is special that Jayesh Salgaonkar of Maharashtra has been selected as
the coach of the Indian men's team.
The Indian team was announced
by Indian Indoor Sports Foundation (IISF) President Ajay Naik and Secretary
Milind Punja.
