Indian men's team lost to England and Sri Lanka
Colombo: The England-Asia Cup indoor cricket tournament organized by the Ceylon
Indoor Cricket Association with the approval of the World Indoor Cricket
Federation (WICF) is being filled with colors and today the Indian team had to
suffer the shock of defeat against England and Sri Lanka. India (20.5 points) is placed third in the points table while Sri Lanka
(35.5 points) and England (21 points) are at the first and second positions
respectively. India will be seen playing in the final as India has one
more match to play against Singapore in this tournament. As all the other teams
have played league matches, they have no chance to increase their points. The
top two teams in the points table play the final match.
In today's match against
England, Indian players were seen playing under a lot of pressure. In this
match, India scored 75 runs in 16 overs while batting first, in reply, England
made a strong attack and scored 112 runs, forcing India to face a big defeat.
India's Vijay Gowda (19 runs) and Daivik Rai (18 runs and 1 wicket) scored
respectable scores for India in this match. England's Nav Patel (23 runs), Tom
Clarke (16 runs 1 wicket), Olive Green (15 runs 2 wickets) scored a big
victory.
In the second league match
against Sri Lanka, India had to lose consecutively. In this match, India
restricted Sri Lanka to 103 runs. India put up a strong fight by scoring 92
runs in a very fast game. Dhanush Bhaskar (16 runs 2 wickets) was honored with
Man of the Match award in this match. Vijay Gowda (16 runs 1 wicket) and Afroz
Pasha (20 runs) played a strong innings. Sri Lanka's Dilsara Sasanka (16 runs
and 1 wicket), Chandima Abeyun (17 runs and 1 wicket), Vinuda Liange and Shevon
Fonseka (18 runs and 1 wicket each) helped Sri Lanka win.
